Chapter 1 (Part 3): Starts and Ends
Tuesday, September 23, 2008
Feddrick stood polishing his spear tip, its silver finish shining brightly. Nunez had given him another chore again, as it the last fifteen wasnt enough.
That scur had better give me a day off after this or I'm gonna stick him in the guts. Feddrick thought to himself solemnly. Of course he'd never do it, but it sure was tempting.
A rattling of the old gates of Coimbra shook him out of his thoughts, he turned to see the silhouette of a beautiful girl step out from behind. Trailing her, was a man and a mid-aged woman; this was probably the pioneering family he was due to set out with.
"
Bonsior, ma'cheri*," Feddrick literally purred, taking the girl's hand in a kiss. "I'm Feddrick, I'd be following you upon this mission."
"I.. I'm Shuzurii" She stammered, blushing a deep shade of red. "Ple..pleased to meet you."
Feddrick gave her one of his smiles, and turned towards the other two. The middle aged woman was attractive too, but her drawn sabres were enough of a warning to him- if he tried the same trick on her, he'd be missing more than just some hair. The man stood, absentmindedly toying with his bracelets, probably fire enchanted ones seeing how they emitted bursts of smoke every once in a while.
He gathered them down and laid out a small map. From his pocket, he drew a small knife and pointed it at a spot on the map.
"This,
tout le monde**, is King's garden. This is probably overdone but I want you guys to be careful, there's a species of plant within the garden that spews fire."
"Fire?" The man interrupted, raising an eyebrow. "I like fire."
"Well, your fires won't be doing much to them, they have a slick goo around their leaves that makes them pretty resistance to fires," Feddrick answered curtly before continuing.
"Let's go. We have abit of land to cover before the sun sets."
* Meia watched as the guard moved off with Iwoji and Shizurii following. Something bad was going to happen. She could feel it in her bones.
"Perhaps, I'm getting paranoid." Meia said to noone in particular. She shook the thought out of her head and followed her family, her hands still clenched tightly around the hilt of her sabres.
*The evening proved uneventful, Feddrick let them through the grassy King's Garden. They trudged through with almost no incidents save an occasional rampant bull, which was calmed down enough by one of Iwoji's fireballs. The most interesting that happened was when Iwoji decided to engage a Lazim-iam, a fire spewing plant which long arm-like leaves were covered in a waxy goo, in a face off of sorts. They pelted globes of fire at each other until Iwoji finally decided he had enough fun and blew the plant up with an inferno spell.
By nightfall they were tired and sweaty. The officer stopped them by a fallen pillar and passed around a canteen and some jerky to ease their hungry stomachs.
"Well there doesn't seem to be anything wrong around here," Feddrick yawned. "We'd meet at Nimrod bridge again tomorrow at dawn for a last day of surveillance."
Meia heard it before she saw it. A soft swish of an arrow as it sliced through the air.
"Feddrick! Get down!"
Feddrick turned still yawning. He blinked blankly as the arrow erupted in between his eyes.
"Huh?" The dead officer managed before collapsing into a pool of blood.
Around him arrows painted the night air with streaks of gray as Meia, Iwoji and Shizurii ran for cover.

*Good evening, My darling(female)
