Chapter 1 (Part 2): A task at hand
Sunday, September 21, 2008
Nunez turned out to be a short stocky man with a receding hairline; his faded white cloak looked like it had seen better days. The man stood infront of his office barking orders at his pioneering officers as they ran to and fro fetching him documents and other sorts of requests. Meia could have sworn she saw an officer carrying what appeared to be a severed mandradora tentacle but he disappeared too fast behind a wall for her to be sure.
"And what are you standing there for?" The short man stared at Iwoji with a raised eyebrow. "Don't you have any work to do? I don't pay people to stand around looking pretty."
"Ah, but you don't pay me." Iwoji replied, bowing graciously. "We are the
Mizukira family. It's an honour"
Iwoji extended his hand but was met instead with a big hug from the man, much to his discomfort.
"Ahahahah!" A bellow of laughter. "Welcome, welcome! Sorry about that, I thought you were one of my lazy officers."
"We were told to see you?" Meia stepped up as Iwoji struggled to free himself from Nunez.
"Oh yes. Yes." Nunez let go of Iwoji and straightened his shirt. "The queen of Vespanola's requested that you aid us with some... disturbance, down at the King's garden."
"The bisons in the area seem to be abit restless recently," He continued. "Something seem to be stirring them up. They are usually peaceful but I've just finished my sixth report about bison attacks within a week! The pioneering officers are too caught up with their own matters to investigate."
"So you want us to be your cattle ranchers?" Shizurii spoke this time, insulted at the idea that they had been called to perform such a menial task.
"Well. No. We will pay you of course, just go to King's garden and find out what causing those attacks." The head officer finished, looking quite glum.
"What do we need to know?" Meia inquired.
"The bisons have attacked trade caravans travelling between Rebodoulx and Coimbra. One of the caravans were totally destroyed and the merchants, missing. Some of the survivors are saying something about some evil in the place. Hysteric after the attacks if you ask me."
Meia drew her sabre, its end glinting softly against the evening sun.
"I'm in the mood for beef anyway." She mused and walked away, Shizurii and Iwoji following quietly.
